Choosing lingerie can be an overwhelming experience for some women in the lead up to their Boudoir Sessions. The important thing to remember is that what you wear is entirely up to you! We encourage you to make selections that allow your personality to shine through and not hold back on wearing anything that will make you feel amazing on the day!
Here are some of our tips to consider when it’s time to go shopping.
Remember – every body is unique and every body shape is different. Whether you are an hourglass, pear, petite, busty, little torso, or long torso, when picking your lingerie, remember to accentuate your natural shape and balance out your proportions.
TRY BEFORE YOU BUY
I always encourage my clients to purchase new lingerie for their Boudoir Sessions – we all know that feeling of wearing something new and fresh for the first time! When you are out looking for lingerie, make sure you try it on! Is it you? Is it comfortable and most importantly, does it fit? Don’t just assume it will fit and find out on the day of your session that it doesn’t.
TAKE SOMEONE SHOPPING WITH YOU
When it’s time to go shopping for your lingerie, take your bestie, partner/husband or mum with you that will give you honest advice – don’t just rely on the shopkeeper to give you the advice you need. Does it represent YOU? Is it flattering? Does it fit you in all of the right places? These are questions best answered by someone you trust!
COMFORT IS KEY!
We not only want you to look beautiful on the day, we want you to feel beautiful as well. In order to feel your best, it is important that you are comfortable in what you are wearing! Think about something that is supportive but comfortable. You will want something that provides your bust great support so lie down, sit down, move all around and see what happens! We want a nice lift, not bulge. If you haven’t been fitted for awhile – it’s a good idea to make sure you’re buying the right size!
COLOUR, COLOUR, COLOUR
We all know black is safe and sexy but variety is wonderful and you won’t regret it. When making your colour selections keep in mind what suits one person, won’t always suit another. Choose colours that compliment your skin tone, hair and eye colour. If you’re stuck, look up colour wheels online that show colours that best compliment each skin tone.
VARIETY
Think of ways to have as much variety from the pieces you select as possible. Choosing a nice selection of lingerie will give you lots of options when it comes time to selecting your favourite images for your gallery and album. Depending on the collection you choose, depends on the number of lingerie options you will have available for your session so don’t forget to check before you shop!
SHOW OFF YOUR BEST FEATURES
The whole point of wearing lingerie besides feeling good about yourself is highlighting your best features. Learn to play to your strengths and you will never go wrong. Focus on what you want to accentuate and then execute it. If you are a curvaceous lady and your thighs and booty are on the thicker side, celebrate it by choosing fuller or boy-leg-shaped briefs. One piece bodysuits are also playful and suit ALL body types. Available in lace and a range of fabrics, cuts and styles. One piece body suits are a favourite for hiding or reducing visualisation of stretch marks.
WHITE TEE'S
White Tees are always a favourite with our clients. There is something about a plain white tee and a cute pair of knickers that ooze sexiness… but just like picking your lingerie, it is important you select the right tee for your session! Tees should be oversized so that they are easily to pull and slouch off the shoulder. We also want to be able to tie them up. They don’t need to be expensive! You can find some great tee’s from Kmart, Big W, Cotton On, Best & Less…
3 PIECE SETS
It’s not every day you get to wear a three piece lingerie set which is why we recommend wearing one to your session. 3 piece sets are sexy, feminine and elegant and add so much elevation to your entire look! Are you self conscious about your tummy? Garter belts are a great choice to help ease your insecurities. Suspenders and stockings are also good at accentuating your legs and booty!! Whatever you choose, make sure you try it on & are comfortable wearing it!
ROBES
Robes are a popular choice for clients who are slightly more reserved, but at the same time, really want to do a Boudoir session. We can easily create a tasteful boudoir session for you in any way that makes you feel comfortable. You don’t even have to wear lingerie! Something like a beautiful robe with a lace body suit or set underneath can still make you feel sexy, feminine and empowered. Some of our Bridal clients like to bring a robe as an extra prop for their imagery. Whatever you are comfortable wearing, we will work with you!
BODYSUITS
Bodysuits are an amazing item to bring to your Boudoir Session as they are flattering on ALL body types while still being sexy. Bodysuits are amazing at providing coverage in areas you may feel self conscious about while still enhancing areas which you may love. For example – you may feel self conscious about your stomach, but love your cleavage – you could opt for a low cut bodysuit. There are so many different designs available in bodysuits that finding the perfect one to suit your body shape should be a breeze!! They come in lots of different colours, patterns and styles.
